Nandigram:"Captured areas" in Nandigram will be freed: Siddiqulla

Kolkata (PTI): With CPI(M) having 'captured' some areas of Nandigram over the past few days, an 8-party anti-land acquisition organisation, on Thursday said the areas would be 'freed' soon with the 'people's help.'

"Just wait. The areas captured by the CPI(M) will be freed soon with help from the people," Gana Unnayan O Jana Adhikar Sangram Samity president Maulana Siddiqulla Chowdhury told a press conference here.

Claiming that a large number of residents of the 'captured' villages have left their homes following the CPI(M) onslaught, Chowdhury said that a delegation of the Samity would visit Nandigram today to express solidarity with the affected people.

"The people of Nandigram want peace. They are being attacked by outsiders. Now the people will resist," he said.

In reply to a question, Chowdhury admitted that Maoists were present in Nandigram, but said he did not know whether they were actually residing in the area.

Siddiqulla, heading the West Bengal unit of the Jamiat Ulema e Hind, has visited Nandigram several times following the March 14 police action in which many people died.
