GUNTUR: Five persons, who posed themselves as Naxalites, to threaten a person to pay back the advance given in a land transaction, have been arrested in the district.
Disclosing this to newsmen here on Wednesday, district Superintendent of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha said Mannem Appi Reddy of Kondamodu village of Piduguralla mandal had 13 acres of land. G Venkatakrishna Reddy and Avula Baskara Reddy of Guntur purchased the land and paid an advance of Rs 11 lakh.
Later, they entered into a deal a deal with another person Satyanarayana and took an advance of Rs 20 lakh from him. When they asked Appi Reddy to register the land in the name of Satyanarayana, Appi Reddy refused and they entered into an argument.
Satyanarayana hatched a plan to get back his money. He contacted his friend Kondaiah and his friends Sk Sambaiah, T Nalur and K Yacob. They made threatening phone calls posing themselves as Maoists from Maoist-infested areas to Bhaskara Reddy and Venkata Krishna Reddy.
When they asked Bhasakara Reddy and Venaktakrishna Reddy to bring Rs 20 lakh to Atchampet residential school, the police laid a trap and arrested the five accused.
